A Community Band

The band exists to make good music, to entertain, and to enjoy playing in. Our members come along to weekly rehearsals and play concerts because they want to make music. By playing we learn to get better: to listen and read music more carefully, to learn from each other, improve techniques, and how written music translates into a good interpreted sound.

Our members are all ages, and from a wide variety of backgrounds, so whether you teach or go to school, travel or pilot an aircraft, make, sell or buy for a living, you’ll feel at home with us. Some of us learnt our instruments from an early age, others picked them up after a long lapse since school, or started from scratch with retirement.

Instruments include: flute, piccolo, oboe, clarinet, alto, tenor and baritone sax, trumpet, horn, trombone, euphonium, sousaphone and percussion.

We don’t audition or ask for a minimum grade, but you will find competence in sight-reading and working at improving makes the experience more enjoyable all round.

Above all, we are friendly, and work together to build a useful and varied repertoire.
